Earrings from Cereal Boxes: The Process and Where to Drop Off Boxes

Cereal box paperboard is the base material for all of our earrings.
We begin by gluing the front and back panels together, and then fixing our original designs to the front.
Following that, we glue on custom-made backs- to which we attach the wires at a later stage- before they are finished with a coat of resin to protect the cardboard.
All of our metals are made from surgical steel.

We source cereal boxes locally; people often visit the store just to drop them off.

Designed to Inspire

Our original designs are fun, sophisticated, and inspired by both science and nature. The mismatched sides allow us to expand on the theme in a way that often adds interest and educational value.

Made in USA

All of our products are designed and produced in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

Why Cereal Box Paperboard?

Jabebo Earrings are made with cereal box paperboard which is a wood fiber that may have gone through paper recycling several times before. Yet, used paperboard is not often selected for continued recycling because its wood fibers become worn and saturated with ink. Many communities still send it to the landfill, so we choose to use post-consumer paperboard because it makes use of an undervalued resource, and it is the ideal thickness to for our earrings.

Additionally, we use the same material for the display cards that we hang the earrings on. We use the paperboard of more than 300 boxes a week. Thankfully, we do not have to eat all the cereal ourselves because friends and our local community are very generous in saving them for us.

Because Jabebo Earrings is a paper product, to increase their durability we give them a final clear coat of resin, which helps to protect them from moisture and UV light.

Any problems?

Any other problems you should let us know. We want to know of troubles you encounter with our product so please send use feedback. Product failures occasionally happen on the production side and with the variation in the materials we are using. We are also aware that people wear our earrings outdoors in various weather conditions and so are interested in hearing about wear and tear and lost earrings. We may be able to provide replacements at a partial or full discount because we want you to keep wearing your favorite pair.
